Temptation of the Kobinis
Vast, vast amounts of convenience stores are on the street corners of many blocks. Commonly, they are simply referred to as "Kobinis". Their nicely up-kept, clean, and offer a wide variety of foods that you'd never find in America. They're a novelty for a tourist and are tempting that you "try as much as you can" when you go to one. Their ease of convenience is convenient, but, I for one must stand in opposition to the Kobini.
As I got more settled in to where I am living currently, the ease of a nearby Kobini made any time I was hungry an easily quenched desire. I could walk and spend over an hour at a restaurant, or I could take an armful of never tried before foods and haul them to my room to eat while I drew or read. For the first few weeks in a more long-term living space, I stopped going to restaurants all together due to their perceived lack of ease. All of my food needs, except maybe the gaining calories, were easily answered to by the Kobini.
Then I got lost one day. I took the wrong train, it went too far, and I wound up in a brand new area. I was late to something important and I was lightheaded. I was forced to explore a brand new environment, gather my bearings, and when ultimately my lateness excused my obligation to go to that event, I stumbled upon a restaurant. I hesitantly entered, I hesitantly picked some menu items, and I hesitantly waited.
I had some of the best food I'd ever had in my life. I was full, I felt satisfied. Kobini food always left my stomach feeling empty, but the food, this sandwich-- it filled me and left me free of hunger for the rest of the day. I was wrong, I was mistaken. To rely on convenience was a mistake! Even as I write this, I lament of my regrets of having spent so many weeks going to one! The wasted time agonizes me, the potential experiences I could've had exploring gone. I refuse to let this happen again, I refuse to let the Kobinis win, so from now on, I will only go to restaurants! (if my dwindling money allows it, obviously.)
Do not be like old me. Become a revolutionary! Sure, try some Kobini food! But dare not rely on it!! Explore! Live! Be Healthy!
